South Carolina Civitan

My Hands...

...do the work of the world and reach out in service to others.

Civitans all over the world are dedicated to serving community needs with an emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities. Although several projects are shared among clubs worldwide, each club chooses projects to meet needs of the local community. Visit our events/news page to find current Civitan activities in South Carolina. Some projects shared among clubs include:

Dance-a-thon

Junior Civitan

Junior Civitan is a community service/leadership development organization for students. Junior Civitan members seek to meet the needs of our world and promote progress in a world of change. Myrtle Beach and South Carolina Civitans hosted Junior Civitan's annual Dance-a-thon, from 2014 to 2018 in Myrtle Beach. The event attracts students from around the world and raises funds to support the Civitan International Research Center.

Clergy Appreciation Week

Held each year on the first week of February, this event shows appreciation to the clergy of all faiths. Clergy Appreciation Week was inspired by an event which occurred during World War II. Read more here.

Special Olympics

Clubs in the state join together to sponsor the annual South Carolina Summer Games. Most clubs also provide direct support to Special Olympic athletes and programs in their local area.

Champions of Service

Civitan Creed

I AM CIVITAN: as old as life, as young as the rainbow, as endless as time.

MY HANDS do the work of the world and reach out in service to others.

MY EARS hear the cry of children and the call throughout the world for peace,
guidance, progress, and unity.

MY EYES search for others to join in the fellowship and service of Civitan.

MY MOUTH utters the call to daily duty and speaks prayers in every tongue.

MY MIND teaches me respect for law and the flag of my country.

MY HEART beats for every friend, bleeds for every injury to humanity,
and throbs with joy at every triumph of truth.

MY SOUL knows no fear but its own unworthiness.

MY HOPE is for a better world through Civitan.

MY MOTTO: builders of good citizenship.

MY BELIEF: do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

MY PLEDGE: to practice the Golden Rule and to build upon it a better
and nobler citizenship.
